Change would do you good

I notice that i post very few lately, and all of 'em are plain rubbish. Idk, it's either i just don't feel the usual surge of inspiration, or that my writing quality is downgrading. Either way,  it's sad ;(

Anyway, this long weekend, i have a very special guest visit: my sister! yay! She's been so busy lately, all with her senior year thingies, exams, and whatnot. But i'm glad she decided to spend time with me in this pseudoholiday. Just when i feel like i miss her, Allah sent me the very person directly. Allah Is The Coolest!

So today i brought her to Depok, to have a look at UI's Central Library, the so-called Crystal of Knowledge. There we tried the iMacs, and while she's having the time of her life watching Running Man, i opened my now-miserable blog. Then i did a major change.

Look, i decided to rename my blog to "Happy Go Lucky". It is an English idiom that means "carefree, taking everything easily". I think it suits the overall content of this blog, which is depicting my day-to-day routine and my gibberish mind. You readers should not taking this blog seriously, as i usually do not put much effort in my writings here. No footnotes, no citations, nothing. Just me and my fingers. So excuse me for talking rubbish. But if you do find this blog useful or inspiring in some way, well, nothing flatters me more than that. I really hope i can produce some hi-quality writings every now and then. But you may have realized that i have my own style of writing, and it's so hard to change it.

I'm trying,  people. I'm trying to write something poetic or fancy or inspiring, but in the end i only came up with this kind of post. EVEN THIS VERY POST. So sorry, you have to endure my rubbish-style posts until God-Knows-When. In the meantime, enjoy :)

afternoon nap #1

Science fact states that in average 10 minutes we forget 90% of our dream. So i decided to keep a pen and notebook nearby when i'm about to sleep, and try to write the details of my dream down immediately after i wake up.

Today, i dream of this.
I was a farmer, like the one in Harvest Moon game. Aside from farming, i also took photos for people, but i don't receive payment for that. One day, i was sitting with my Liqo friends, and among them was D (strange, bcause in real life D is not in my Liqo group). Then M (D's boy friend) came and he and D became lovey-dovey so that our Liqo mentor put on shocked face. M asked me to take photo of him and D in the swing.  The swing is located in front of B building in Insan Cendekia. And when i'm about to shot a pic of them, i saw the last photo i take (jsyk, i took photos with my cellphone camera instead of a fancy DSLR, maybe that's why i took pictures for free). The  last picture i take was me and my sister in that very swing, wearing yellow bird-like costume. I then remembered the moment that picture was taken, it was after i and my sister had a boooooring karaoke session with Abi and one of his female friend. But the boring karaoke cost Abi 100k and he also paid 500k++ for a new CIMB Niaga card. He said i should tell Ummi later about the new card.
There was also a scene where i and Risqon (also a Harvest moon farmer) waiting for a truck in Ciputat busway shelter. We farmers do not work on Sundays, so in order to get money in Sundays, we deliver goods with the truck from Ciputat busway shelter. We had to catch the truck before 5 PM, because if we're late, the truck won't give us any money at all.
Back to when i took M and D's picture, i shot them at some fancy angle. Then my real sister in the real world wake me up and asked me to pray Dzuhur berjamaah.

I plan on writing my dreams, however absurd they might be. Dreams are supposed to be irrational and absurd, anyway.

One more interesting fact about dream, is that our mind doesn't invent faces. In our dreams we always see people we know or people we've seen but don't remember.

Spesialisasi

If you are in medschool, almost everyone will ask you this: "Ooh, ambil spesialis apa?"

I have to admit that actually i have not give that much thought. See, i am still an undergraduate, and undergraduate medstudents study everything. By everything, i mean EVERYthing. It's just so much to cover, all of them is interesting in their own way. Besides, i am the type of person who is easily fascinated. So when i learn about dermatology, i thought "Dermatology is fun, i might make a cute dermatologist!" (seriously? :D). And then when i progressed to internal medicine (gastroenterology, cardiology, etc etc) i thought "Whoa the internists are all genius, i might as well be one of 'em!". Still, when i reached neurology, i thought "Neurology is so wonderful, it covers all the other medscience! I need to learn more about it!"

See, i cant make up my mind about what should i be in the future. All of them medscience are overwhelmingly interesting. But after a long thought, i finally narrowed it down to these (in random order):

1. Psychiatry.
Psychiatrists deal with psychotic people. The term 'psychotic' here doesn't mean the cold-blooded serial killer who lurks in the dark brandishing knife to some passers-by. Psychotic, literally, means someone with mental disorder. It includes perceptual disorders (like seeing things that aren't actually there), mood and affective disorders (bipolar, depression, manic), and thought disorders (like speaking something absurd or walking down the street with no clothes on > a chronic case of schizophrenia). Actually i was afraid of mental people at first. They freaked me out! I had some bad experiences with schizophrenics (long story). But after i learned psychiatry last semester, i realized that there is no health without mental health. So i decided that psychiatry is important. Besides, most psychiatrists i know are kind, emphatic, patient, and they always seem to talk nicely. I want to talk nice :3

2. Dermatology
Dermatology is seriously fun. Although the case i've learned usually looked gross and horrible (like burns or scales or even simple acne that grows very large), i found them interesting and fun to learn. And dare i say dermatology cases are tend to be simpler than other medical condition? But of course, as skin is the outer part of our body that's exposed to environment, we have to keep it nice, intact, and healthy. I also noticed that the dermatologists are gorgeous, with wonderful skin. Hehe, maybe if i be a dermatologist i could look nicer too (what kind of motive is this haha). But unfortunately, dermatology is often associated with venerology (SpKK > Spesialis kulit dan kelamin). I don't think i'm into the latter :/

3. Obstetry-Gynecology
I don't know why most of ob-gyn doctors are male, while the patients are all female. Most of my female relations advised me to take ob-gyn in the future, because they are not so happy with some male overlooking their intimate organs. Besides, females should know better about other females, right? I gotta admit this is true. My grandma, in particular, strongly encourage me to take ob-gyn. She said that there's so few female ob-gyn nowadays, in fact, there's only one in Sidoarjo where she lives. And the female ob-gyn doctor is so busy because many women want her to assist their labor and examine their you-know-what. My Grandma thought it must be nice if there are more female ob-gyn doctors, so we woman don't have to worry much. I actually like what i've learned in ob-gyn, they're interesting. But i heard that the pressure of being an ob-gyn resident is hard, seniors making you do things and whatnot. Guess if i want to be ob-gyn doctor, i need to be tough >.<
"the baby says hello"

4. Surgery
I never give it much thought, since they say surgeon is the most tiring being a doctor can be. Imagine you have to stand and concentrate on those tiny blood vessels, be careful not to cut 'em, removing cancerous lesions, etc for HOURS. Surgeons have to be good at hands, have a fine motor control, have a sharp vision, and have strong legs that can support their weight. Besides, surgery residency takes longer that most other specializations, 10 semesters, if i recall correctly. That means more time, and more money. But lately, since i've been fond of crocheting, a friend said to me i would make a good surgeon. Come to think of it, i actually like delicate handwork, and once i'm absorbed in it, i find it so hard to stop :D And i remember once when i had this Basic Surgical Skill KKD session, the tutor complimented the knots i made. He also said i would make a nice surgeon. Hey, why not? :)
hello, can we, like, cut you open now?

Those are some fields that i'm interested in, FOR NOW. There are others i would like to write, like cardiology, neurology, and otorhinolaryngology (THT). But i have matters to do now. This interest probably can still change. My seniors said i will know what i like most after i'm actually involved in real cases in clinic rotation. Clinic rotation is next semester, so i think i have to prepare for the best that might come :) Any suggestion what should i take?

The Mark of Athena - review

The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus, #3)The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One of my favorite fantasy reading! I never really notice it when i read the previous Riordan's works (Percy Jackson and the Olympians series) but the way Riordan tells his tale is wickedly hilarious. Every now and then i find myself laughing like a madwoman just from reading this novel. Hey, we can always use some good laugh, rite? :)

In this new series (The Heroes of Olympus), we can still meet Percy, Annabeth, and their friends from Camp Half-Blood, but the focus of the story moves to another demigod groups; Roman demigods. There are Jason, son of Jupiter (Roman name of Zeus), Hazel, daughter of Pluto (known also as Hades, finally Nico has another sister :D), Frank, son of Mars (a.k.a Ares the beefy guy) and many more. After the fall of Titan Lord Kronos, Olympus (and practically the world) is under threat of Gaea, the Earth Goddess, who can turn mountains into rumbles, which is the sorta thing  Earth Goddess do. Seven demigods, including Percy and Annabeth and some Roman demigods are destined to stop her from pulverizing the earth.

Actually the story is nearly as irrational as the first series (partly maybe because i dont buy the idea of multiple gods working together and bickering about how to run the world, partly because the idea of gods have kids with mortal is just freakinly mad) but i guess fantasy novels can fantasize all they want :D

Forget the irrationality, and you'll find quite an entertainment throughout the books. Riordan really knows how to make funny similes and sarcastic yet purely hilarious sentences. Each protagonist gets their fair share of publicity, because the book is written in their own individual point of view, one by one. That's better than the first-person POV Riordan uses in the previous series, because the thoughts and feelings of other characters is more deeply explored and described. and i found some descriptions he makes is just laugh-cracker :D

There are plotholes alright, like why the gods, despite their knowing everything and almighty powers, still are capture-able and jail-able. but it's no biggie since the main story is waaaay more engaging and interesting. Why fuss over small plotholes, then? xP

Sisi lain Kartu Jakarta Sehat - repost

-dapet dari milis doktermuslimfkui-

Supir bus TransJakarta digaji Rp. 7,7 juta per bulan.

Kongkret Pak…

Listen

Above is my recent audiography test result, showing how well my ears can hear the softest tone on different notes (actually i got tested in physics labwork. when you are a medstudent, you can get free health test in labworks every now and then). Shown that my left ear can hear until the threshold of 0 dBHL, while my right ear has slightly increased threshold, 6,25 dBHL. When i say 0 dBHL, it means the softest tone average people can still hear. So i can hear alright, my hearing is normal, but my left ear is waaay more sensitive than my right.

Maybe it's because sometimes i put on music earphone in only my right ear, so my left ear can still hear what the lecturer says. I can tell you this is no use because, well, music sounds more interesting than the lecturer, rite? ;p and i would not ever put on music earphones if the lecture is interesting. In fact, i rarely put on music earphones. I learned that earphones on medium level has the same loudness level as loud gym or very loud traffic, and putting it on fore more than some-teen minutes can damage your sound receptor permanently. So i prefer playing music through speakers. If i really have to use earphones, i always keep the volume 40% maximum.

I know some people who put on their earphones on 100% volume, even i who sits beside them can hear clearly what they're listening. I wonder don't they get dizzy listening to music that loud? But now i figure that our hearing threshold is different from each other. I find my hearing is still sensitive and i have to preserve it by protect my ear against loudness!
